Breaking Point

Usually I am fine with being under stress it helps me realize people need me and I am therefore important. I am not fine being under a lot of stress apparently though. Lately I have been getting up at 5. Rowing with a crew who don't know how to some of the simplest task like balancing. And rowing in a boat the is so old and crappy it literally hes injured me. Unfortunately the injury is minor so I can't bitch. Anyway I just wanted to get this off my mind so it may help me. W/e

Injuries suck, lemme tell ya. I compete in Tae Kwon Do with minor injuries all of the time, sparring, forms, w/e. But if you don't take care of it, it acts up when you least expect it, gives way at exactly the wrong moment, and hurts like hell when you can afford it least. So take care of it.
Stress? Calm down and do a super high energy sport. Like Tae Kwon Do. I'm hyper a lot because of it, but I'm really healthy, happy, and I sleep really well, which reduces stress. I think. But take care of that injury, cuz that can stress you out too.

Amen man to Tea Kwon Do. I already do that. I have been doing it for a year and a half. I don't compete but I know what you mean. It is not a bad injury more of an annoyance because it is small and exactly where I aplly the most force but yeah. Usually I am pretty mellow. Lately I have been getting up earlier and at first it didn't bug me but it is starting to affect me. Tommarow (Saturday) I have to get up at 3.15 in the morning. If i had the time to sleep like I used to I would be better but I guess I will just have to double time in Teak.

Me (That anonymous TKD person) again. Holy crap: 3:15? I get weird looks for getting up at 5. Wow. Keep up TKD, though. I've been doing it for 5.5 years, and believe me, it only gets better. And don't be afraid to compete (like practically everyone I know. ;P)! Go for it. Y'know, if you have time and all. Good luck with the annoyance/injury thing. ;) BTW, if it's a muscle thing, stretch. It really helps, at least for me.

OK I don't have some mysterious illness it is jest the I scraped off the some of the skin on my foot from where I press in rowing. I didn't think I made it sound like that big of a deal. (Anonymous TKD guy)

Oh and thank you for drawing a cool picture of Fang for me to use. One day if I get really popular I want to find someones interpretation of me that would be funny as hell. (disenchanted) How did you find out I was using your picture though.

Oh. That's it? That's the big, mysterious injury? Phew. I thought it was a sprain or something. Those are evil, particularly knee sprains (which I've just discovered again, much to my chagrin. Makes sparring an unpleasant experience, even though it's normally fun). Well, take care of it anyhow.

I didn't mean it to sound big. Sorry bout calling you a guy meant no offense. So you have been going for 5.5 years what belt are you on now.

I'm testing for my second degree black belt in September. And I'm freaking out cuz I just won Grand Champion in forms in my local tournament for all the black belts under 17!!!!! AAA! Sorry. Don't mean to brag, I'm just really hyper. Especially since I got it w/ a bum knee. ;)
What belt are you up to, btw?
And no offense taken. I just like people (especially guys) to know I'm a girl cuz it just makes sparring so much more fun. 'Specially when I spar my instructors. They're not afraid of me, and then they meet my axe kick. Do you spar a lot at your TKD school?

Guess what sweetheart, Fang is not real. So NO ONE can or ever will be Fang. I am only human and I made this blog because it was an easy way to get things off my chest. If you don't like my blog then you don't have read it but excuse me for admitting my faults. I await all the hate mail I may get for this one but I don't give a damn right now.

Anonymous TKD girl: I have not been able to go all the time so after all my time I am still only yellow belt. I only just received my sparring equipment last week and since then we have done no sparring and it is really annoying because I REALLY want to spar more than anything else. Good luck on your test.

Thanks! I'm gonna need all the luck I can get!
Sparring is awesome!!!!!!! I wish that I hadn't neglected it when I was an underbelt, because I love it now. If you really want to spar, ask your instructors to work on sparring in class. Show an interest. If you really want it, go for it. When your instructors see you want it, they'll help you get it. It never, ever hurts to ask for extra help. Unless you gotta pay, but if you're serious, it doesn't matter.
Now, you're a street fighter, right? So you're used to close distance fighting, right? TKD is long distance fighting, if that makes sense. Get your kicks up, it helps. And if you want tips, lemme know. I'm here to help.
And (one more thing. I talk a lot), you don't deserve any hate mail. The blog is fine the way it is. I'd rant about giving people crap they don't deserve, but then I'd get annoying. You get the point. I hope. ;)

Avian Fang said...

Thanks. My class doesn't work the same way as your because we only have one instructor so we just do whatever he says for the class all I really can do is hope for sparring soon. I see everyone is mixing this up. I said I wanted to be a street fighter not that I am one. Though I have practiced in close quarter fighting I have never been able to apply it. I am glad you like to talk a lot and if you have AIM add me. It's Avian Fang a bit of a no brainer.

Sorry. No AIM. :( If I did, I'd add you.
Oh! I was just listening to what everyone else was saying about street fighting. Oops. I've caught up, though. ;)
How strict is your instructor? You can't even suggest something to work on? In my experience, if people tell their instructors they're interested in sparring, the instructor gets all excited because they think that their student will make it to the Olympics. Oh, well. I wish I knew how your instructor taught, cuz then it would make it easier for me to help.
Sparring tip: don't stand still! Work on your movement. If they can't catch you cuz you're too fast, so much the better. And if you can take that speed to get in and out, great.

~Anonymous TKD girl (No freaking duh)

Avian Fang said...

Well I have never tried but what the heck I will next practice.

I assume you work out a bit for TKD. What are the most important area to work out?

It depends. Do you want sparring or forms?

~TKD girl (Is this necessary?)

Sparring

I stretch. A lot. It gets your kicks high, and I'm a kicker. Drill both sides. You'll automatically prefer one side, but if you can use both, you have an advantage. Practice pump kicks (offensive kicks: pick your leg up, push forward, kick). Multiple pumps, too. Work on your balance and controlling your leg. The longer you can keep it up, the better. The more control you have the better, cuz if you can go to throw your kick so it's almost all the way out as a fake, then switch it up, fantastic. Thinking on your feet is really important. You need to be able to read your opponent. Switch up your punches. Don't be repetitive, or you'll get beaten up. Throw ridgehands. Spar anyone and everyone you get the chance to. Go to tourneys and spar. Experience is more important than drills cuz you have to figure out how you're comfortable sparring.

I actually forgot the most basic, most important thing: when you spar in TKD stand sideways, so you're a smaller target, and keep your hands up, either guarding your chest, side, and/or head. And avoid turning your chest to your opponent, cuz you'll get hit. If you have to turn something towards them, make it your back, cuz it hurts to get hit, but they can't score points there. And never move in a straight line. Always circle.

Smo
PS: i was nither drunk high or did i smoke sumthing before i wrote this i swear i did not...

Avian Fang said...

WTF! wow wow wow SMO why do you want to die. Stomach cancer could be life threatening but seriously you have to have a more optimistic outlook. You can't except death. Besides why would it be fine if you died right now.

Smo, why in blazes would you want to die?! Life is good, and there are people who care about you out there. Don't let them down by doing nothing and accepting death. Be a fighter. Live! I wish I could say something more inspiring, but my words have been failing me lately. Don't let yourself down though, enjoy life, and fight back, stomach cancer or not. Listen to Avian Fang.
I had someone almost kill me once, and I was wondering if life was worth living after the betrayal forced upon me. Luckily, I figured out people cared about me before anything bad happened. Just realize that people out there care about you, and you don't want to let them, or yourself down by just giving up.
