Me and a couple of my friends went down town in my city last night for an event called earth hour. We had a big concert had some people come by and at 8.30 all the lights in the city went out and for 1 hour we were asked to keep the lights off.
Now I am an outdoors person and I like to go off in the night into a field and just stare at the stars.
Last night was the first time in a long time even though it was just for one hour there was no light pollution.
Light Pollution is : Illumination of the night sky by electric lights, as in an urban area, that interferes with astronomical observation.
This bugs me because it interferes with my star gazing.
I'm sorry I got a bit off topic again. What I was making this post for was that I wanted everyone to try this. You don't have to make a big deal out of it but as a family for one hour a night, or week, or month turn off all (or at least most) of your lights, this will conserve electricity as well as help the environment.
Somethings to try:
Light some candles and use those for lights.
Play board games instead of video games.
Read a book instead of watching a movie.
Just little things like this could help.
A little thing here and their can add up. Tell your friends and get other people into this.
Fly on. Live free,
Avian Fang

I love stars, I just went to a friend's house a few days ago and she lives where there are no lights almost and they were a ton of them out and we found all the constellations, even Scorpio and the little Dipper and Cassiopeia and Orian (my favorite ones, but there are usually too many lights to see them all) but there were also a ton of clouds, so we missed the dog constellation and some of the others....
I was so angry at myself, and have been for forever, because I MISSED EARTH HOUR. I didn't even have any of the lights on in my room, but I never checked the rest of the house, and now I swear we're (as in, my family) the public enemy #1 of environmentalists. I heard about everywhere else though, like I bet Paris was amazing that night. I have one more something to add to your list: turn off the lights during the day--there's more than enough sun to go around.

Great idea about the during the day thing. Its a good way to save electricity but don't remind me about the sun. I am a vampiric creature and the sun always wakes me up in the morning.
Avian Fang
Vampiric? Really? So what, no sunny-d, or capri sun? You know stars are actually a ton brighter than the sun, just really far away right? Don't they cause you discomfort also? How can you go star gazing with them glaring at you and all your anti-sun-ness? Hey, I guess you never have to worry about skin cancer from not wearing sun block though, right? (Oh, the upsides to being a member of the undead.) :)
I can almost never let the sun wake me up in the morning, it's kind of sad really. I usually wake up early around 6 or 7 or way too late, like 12. I prefer the night anyway, there aren't as many distractions and that's when cool movies come on.
I... am... a... chatterbox.... (Ha, I've never gotten to apply that word to myself anywhere outside my head before!)
~me
I tihnk it would just be easier to call you Nudge. Lol.
Vampiric more like 50%. I do not like the sun but I don't like get hurt by it. And as for stars they are beautiful so I love that.
Besides I am a ginger I already don't have to worry about skin cancer. I have to get up at 6 for rowing practice anyway. On that note I g2g to bed.
Avian Fang
Wow, okay. (I'm on Spring Break, so I don't have to do anything tomorrow. But of course I will.)
Once I watched a movie about this guy who was an awesome rower, like best in the country or something, and he joined a secret society which then killed his best friend, and he was already an orphan and probably not able to get into college, so he was really ticked at them, and he eventually had to get out of the society, get back in, get revenge, and then stop the guy who he wanted revenge over from committing suicide even though it was the same guy who caused all the trouble in the first place.
I... am... Nudge. Not really, but you're right, it sure seems like it. :)
~me
Never heard of that movie. What kind of boat did he row in.
Single
Double
Pair
Quad
Four
Octet
Eight
Each of those boats are different lol.
Well you do share some qualities with Nudge. You are lucky when I had my spring break it was still cold.
What ever life goes on.
Avian Fang
It's off and on with the cold--one day it's 40 degrees and others it can be 60 or 70 (Fahrenheit). I think there were eight people, I'm not sure.... there was only one scene with them racing, but it wasn't a very good movie anyway. I've noticed that a ton of movies that are supposed to freak you out are actually just ridiculous fight scenes one after the other with constantly shifting camera angles.

hmm... i like to just sit on my table outside and gaze at stars but only like twice a year cos its cold and are you two from america?
cos you said you had spring break or something and we don't have that here
i am an outdoors person but not the star-gazing type and do you two go to school? because i don' really know who i'm talkin 2
amd you said don't play video games but you sia dyour addicted to them andi read books any way
I won't say anything about Aita because it is not my information to give but I am not from America and I do not go to school with Aita.
oh no i didn't mean together
and where are you from if not america?
I am from Canada
Hah i knew it! Canada is such a cool country (not just the weather)
Which part? I've been there on holiday and i went to Banff (i think thats how you spell it) and Whistler (ditto) I love the accent its soo cool.
I'm from England! (whoop whoop!)
and it doesn't rain that often but its probs not as cold as Canada and i went their skiing and snowboarding the latter is awful (i hope i didn't offend any boarders)
RaCheL
p.s have you every listened to Panic at the Disco- Time to Dance?
I have a good friend from England. You were in Alberta I am in Ontario. Canada is really cold in winter and too hot in Summer. We get to complain regardless of the season.
I don't think you would have offended anyone you tried both and in your opinion you don't like snowboarding that is totally fair. If you had only tried skiing then it would be offensive. (MY OPINION)
I had heard it before and I listened to it again specifically for this comment. I like the sound of it.
