A new post

I am sorry for being so grouchy and moody lately. I don't really like posting when I am like that because they are not really entertaining and they are not thought provoking they are just a random jumble of words. I want my blog to be interesting whenever possible so thats what I am going to try to work on.

So I was looking around and I found this site with some religious questions and answers. This is what one said.

6. Durign a Latin Convention i went to last weekend, we were discussing doctor assisted suicide and people put up good arguements. Of course im against it, but against the arguement that the dotor woudl be playing God by killing the sick person, but then wouldnt we be playing God by doing alot of things like using medicines?

You are a very perceptive girl. Anytime we use creation for some purpose, you could say we are exercising powers God entrusted to us. However, doctor assisted suicide is "playing God" in a way we need to question. Once someone says they have the right to take someone's life (even their own) the consequences are enormous.

(I do realize the person asking the question has terrible grammar)

Now this question was answered by a father of some catholic church. All I want to know is What is the difference between killing someone who wants to do and who doesn't? Why is it wrong to kill the person who is in extreme pain and wants to be killed which is what the doctors do and killing a bunch of innocent people who want to live which is what soldiers do?

I don't understand why people can sometimes be this stupid. But I know my opinion and I think you reading this probablly do also. I want to know what you think. Do you think euthanasia is good or bad and why? Also if you think it is wrong then tell me if you support your troops?

I have been away, and that's why I missed out commenting recently....

In short, I am against assisted suicide (not just as a true Catholic, but as a person) and suicide/killing in general, as it is cruel. (Let me explain in a little bit.) And I support my troops.

And that is allllllll very contradictory, but it makes sense in my mind. I see suicide (because the person just decides, whether out of depression or anger or boredom, i.e., a non-medical reason) as self-centered. It may be "their" life and "their" choice, but other people will be affected in the one decision of that person. It is NOT going to affect them alone, and it is NOT going to solve any problems for them. "Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem." That was a quote my health teacher liked. It's true.

There are not many medical cases where doctor-assisted suicide is advisable. In the few cases where the person would suffer extremely, I can see how they would not go out of their way to keep the person alive. The person can be kept in as little pain as possible (there are plenty of pain-killers that are 100% effective on 99% of pains) and be let die naturally, if there was no hope or if the rest of their life would be spent experiencing overly difficult repercussions if they survived. But otherwise I say there is no reason to just OFF the person because they don't want to live and they happen to have an illness at the same time. The individual circumstances would have an affect on whether I support the decision or not.

And lastly the troop thing. Some of the men and women are not in their position by choice--they could have been going for scholarship benefits, or some other reason. If they personally chose to go into the army, that is their own choice, they probably wanted to give to the country they call home. I love my country (maybe not all the people in it, certainly not some of the decisions the government or my fellow citizens make) and I want to let the people who help protect me know that I appreciate what they sacrifice on a daily basis, so I am going to keep supporting my troops of course. I don't think killing people is right, but again, circumstances.

I wrote a novel. That's what happens when I leave for days at a time....

I agree that if it is in the middle of their life and they choice suicide that is selfish. Why keep someone alive when there life is ruined. If you drug them out on painkillers sure they wont feel the pain but they cant do anything anyway because of the drugs. There is no reason why I think you should prolong the death of someone. If there is no chance of them being able to live why keep them bed ridden, in pain (or completely drugged) for a couple months so that they can die miserable. Why not just let them die and have the last memories of them not be of them in a hospital for months being sad.

Your debate with suicide is that it is selfish to take your life because of the people it affects just recapping on that. Would it not be selfish also to go to war and kill people so someone else will pay for your schooling. I understand patriotism. I respect my military because of what it does to protect us but I also understand the sacrifices made by our soldiers. Would it not also be selfish to go to war to be patriotic and die, leaving everyone you love behind. Or say you live but you have to kill your enemy what about his family.
I don't believe this is selfish but this is because I believe human life is belonging to the person whose life it is.

I don't understand how people can think suicide is bad and army is not.

Killing people, even if you're in the army, is NOT something I EVER support. Suicide is killing someone, I do not support it. Killing someone out of "mercy" or whatever people want to say it is is also something I do not support, because I simply do not think death is something humans should control. If someone was meant to die before their time, they'd already have been dead. But I think everyone has a purpose, and if someone is still here, they have not completed their purpose. By voluntarily dying early, they are cheating the world of whatever they were meant to teach us.

I do not believe it is right to go and kill people for being true to their countries. I do not think violence is needed to solve world issues. I support the army because they are doing what they think is right, and they can sometimes do that with minimal violence. And I appreciate them.

So I am patriotic I guess, and confusing, and all of this sounds so right in my head and so debatable out in the open. So I may keep most of it in my head.... Though it's a bit late for that now.
